Khi bắt đầu cuộc chơi, người chơi của đội A đi trước, vừa đi vừa kêu “u,u,u……” và vừa chạy sang vạch bên kia giới hạn để đập vào người đội bạn rồi quay về.
Trong khi đó đội B sẽ cố xúm vào bắt bạn này. Nếu ghì được người đó và người này ngừng phát âm “u…” vì cạn hơi không về được đội A thì B đã bắt được tù binh đội A. Tuy nhiên nếu bạn đội A đụng được bất cứ ai đội B và trở về đội A an toàn trước khi đứt hơi “u” thì tất cả những người đội B bị đụng được coi như bị bắt sang A làm tù binh. Tù binh thì đem giam vào “kho giam giữ”.
Hai đội lần lượt vượt biên giới để bắt tù binh. Mỗi đội có thể cứu tù binh đồng đội được nếu xông vào đến kho giam giữ được, đụng được đồng đội đã bị bắt và chạy thoát về sân nhà. Những người bị bắt thì dang tay nối nhau thành hàng dài để vươn ra gần biên giới hòng với được người sang cứu. Trong khi đó bên phòng thủ thì cố bắt người đối phương và ngăn không cho đối phương cứu được tù binh. Tất cả mọi diễn biến xảy ra trong khi người vượt tuyến tấn công kêu “u…”
Đội nào có số người bị bắt hết trước thì đó là đội thua cuộc và phải nhận hình phạt do đội thắng cuộc đưa ra.
